Although Tal-y-bont Country House dates from the 17th Century, there have been later additions to the building. The house is deceptively spacious, appearing to be only two storeys at the entrance but growing to three levels from the side aspect as can be seen in the photo gallery. The entrance hall has an old slate floor and large slate inglenook fireplace. There is off-road parking for guests at the end of the drive.
We aim to make guests feel at home and will endeavour to make your stay as pleasurable as possible. Meals are served in our guest dining room which has an outstandng view down the Vale of Ffestiniog. Our breakfasts are freshly prepared from locally sourced ingredients. Evening meals and packed lunches can also be provided. Special dietary needs can be taken into consideration with prior notice.
This is a strictly non smoking house. We do, however, have a covered area in the garden where smokers may indulge.
While we would welcome guests with restricted physical abilities, we are limited by the age and configuration of the building. All our guest bedrooms are one floor above the entrance level and can only be accessed via a staircase. Please discuss any particular requirements with us and we will do out utmost to accommodate them.
There are two pubs and a restaurant within reasonable walking distance. Both of the pubs serve food.
Bicycles can be stored in our lock-up garage.
We have reviewed our policy on allowing dogs and have decided that we will consider requests on an individual basis. Please enquire if you need your dog to accompany you.
A travel cot is available for small babies but please bring your own bedding, high chair, bottles, baby formula and/or food and sterilisation equipment and anything else necessary for the care of small ones. Children are very welcome but should be supervised while in the garden as there are slate paths which are by their nature uneven and slippery when wet plus there is direct access to the road from the driveway and there are fast flowing rivers very close by.
The garden is visited by an amazing array of birds: wagtails, tits, nuthatches, finches of all kinds, together with the more common visitors such as robins and blackbirds. Buzzards and kites frequently circle overhead and herons rest in the field between their dips and dives into the rivers.
There are some very nice walks from the house with nearby rivers and waterfalls. Please enquire for suitable routes as not all local farmers appreciate walkers on their land!
Pictured below is a view from one corner of the garden.
